Issue/Introduction

A license is used within the PGP Encryption Desktop (Symantec Encryption Desktop) software to enable the functionality purchased and sets the expiration of the software.

Depending on the license you have, some or all of the functionality of the software will be available.

Resolution

How to license PGP Encryption Desktop 11 and above 

Beginning with PGP Encryption Desktop 11, the PGP client will be enrolled to the PGP Encryption Server (Symantec Encryption Management Server), which will in turn license the PGP client.  To enroll PGP Encryption Desktop clients, see the following article:

HOW TO: License Symantec Encryption Desktop 10.3.2 MP8 through PGP 10.5.1

Beginning with Symantec Encryption Desktop 10.3.2 MP8, unmanaged users are no longer required to submit the Name, Organization, and Email values to register the Symantec Encryption Desktop product license. These fields are no longer present in the PGP Licensing Assistant dialog box.

Note: The information included in this article supersedes any information included in the PGP Desktop User's Guides regarding license authorization.

 



HOW TO: License PGP Desktop versions 9.5 through S
ymantec Encryption Desktop 10.3.x - 10.4.2
 
PGP 9 through 10.4.2 should be upgraded to the current version of the software for continued use. 
 
Check the current versions of Symantec Encryption software and ensure you download the latest version.

The current versions are supported and maintained, so it's always best to run the latest version of Symantec Encryption Products.
