Issue/Introduction

  • After deploying a new License Server, the appliance does not appear under the License Server tab within the VCF Operations UI.

  • The issue specifically occurs when the License Server OVA is deployed directly via the ESXi host client rather than through the vCenter Server. Observing the License Server virtual machine console reveals the following unconfigured state:

Environment

VMware Cloud Foundation 9.1

Cause

Deploying the License Server OVA directly via the ESXi host UI bypasses the vCenter Server's vApp OVF property injection mechanism. As a result, the appliance initializes without the mandatory configuration parameters (such as networking and VCF Ops registration details), preventing it from successfully establishing connectivity and registering with VCF Operations.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, you must delete the incorrectly deployed appliance and redeploy it through vCenter.

    1. Download the latest License Server appliance OVA from the Broadcom Support Portal.

    2. Log in to the vCenter Server UI.

    3. Locate the incorrectly deployed License Server VM, right-click it, and select Power > Power Off.

    4. Once powered off, right-click the VM and select Delete from Disk to completely remove it.

    5. Deploy the newly downloaded License Server OVA strictly using the vCenter Server UI (right-click the cluster/host and select Deploy OVF Template).

    6. Ensure all vApp properties and networking configurations are filled out during the vCenter deployment wizard.
