Issue/Introduction

With the purchase of Broadcom Advanced Support and a Support Account Manager (SAM) or Dedicated/Designated Support Engineer (DTSE/DSE), you can receive Planned Activity Precheck Reviews for all VCF products. This process aims to ensure that Broadcom Support receives essential information well before a scheduled upgrade window, to minimize avoidable reactive events.

The Planned Activity Precheck Review is provided on a best effort basis and is intended to assist with identified issues and precheck failures. While Broadcom Support strives to highlight potential risks, this review is not exhaustive and may not identify all issues or environment-specific considerations. It is not a commitment to participate during the planned activity nor is it a certification or validation of a runbook. The customer remains responsible for validating their activity plan and ensuring their environment if fully prepared for the change.

Upgrade Prep Work:

  • Review the Planned Activity Precheck Review KBs for the specific VCF product being upgraded (please see below).

In addition to the prep work, the customer and SAM are expected to collaborate to understand all products, versions, the extent of change that is expected, and the desired timeline.

Note: This service is exclusively for customers with the Advanced Support entitlement and an assigned SAM/DTSE/DSE. Customers who do not have this offering cannot proceed with the Planned Activity Precheck Review process. If a customer without Advanced Support encounters a production outage during maintenance or an upgrade, a Critical - P1 Case must be created within the Broadcom Support Portal.

*** This process is only intended for products that have not reached End of Service (EOS) ***

Resolution

Planned Activity Precheck Review Guidelines:

  • Review the Planned Activity Precheck Review KB for the specific VCF product.
    • Provide the information from the template on the specific VCF KBs in the case description.
    • Upload any necessary logs or files that would need to be reviewed.
  • The customer or SAM to create a Low - P4 case.
    • When creating the case, include "Planned Activity Precheck Review" in the Case Subject.
  • The case must be created at least 10 days in advance of the scheduled start date.
    • If it is going to be a very extensive upgrade/maintenance/migration, it is recommended to create the case much earlier than 10 days before the scheduled start date.
  • Two cases will be created during this process: (1) The Planned Activity Precheck Review case will be created. Once the review has been completed, this case will be closed. (2) The customer or SAM will create a Maintenance Awareness case 2 business days before the scheduled upgrade start date.
    • Once the upgrade/maintenance has completed, this Maintenance Awareness case will be closed.

If a production down issue is encountered during the upgrade, and a rollback is not possible, the Maintenance Awareness case is expected to be uplifted to a Critical - P1.
