Requesting CA 2E and/or PTC Implementer License Keys

Issue/Introduction

Sometimes license keys need to be regenerated because of but not limited to changes in the environment, expiring, or soon to be expiring.

This knowledge article explains the fastest and most effective way to obtain new license keys.

Environment

CA 2E 8.x

All supported versions of PTC Implementer

Resolution

When requesting CA 2E Licenses, gather the following information and open a Broadcom "Non-Technical" Support Case with the Global Customer Assistance (GCA) team.

IMPORTANT: Please read Create a Non Technical case for Support Portal / License / Contract related issues for specific steps on creating a non-technical case.

For the case description, include the following:

Broadcom Site ID that the CA 2E License should be registered to
Set the model library list by running "YSTRY2 *SELECT" from the IBM i Main Menu, select any of the existing model library lists, then execute these commands to confirm the CA 2E version and patch level:

The IBM iSeries OS level. Run the following command:

GO LICPGM 
```
From here, choose option 10, then press F11.
Serial number of the given server.
IMPORTANT: If you are replacing a given server, obtain this value from both the original and replacement servers.

Run the following command:
```
DSPSYSVAL SYSVAL(QSRLNBR)
```
Model number of the given server.
IMPORTANT: If you are replacing a given server, obtain this value from both the original and replacement servers.

Run the following command:
```
DSPSYSVAL SYSVAL(QMODEL)
```
Expiry date based on your contract
Product codes that are part of 2E for which you want licenses generated. Product codes include:
- rpg generator
- RPGLE generator
- COBOL generator
- COBOL ile generator toolkit
- 2E, web option
- 2E CM
If you are uncertain of your existing product code allocations, or are obtaining a replacement license, run the following command to display existing licenses.

If command YDSPLICPRD does not work, check to make sure libraries Y1SY, Y2SY and Y1SYVENG are present.

PTC Implementer

If PTC Implementer is used, in addition to the information above, the following additional information is required:

Processor feature code
Partition ID
Is the license key required for the host node, receiver node or both?
Set the model library list and execute these commands to confirm the PTC Implementer version and patch level:

```

In the event that PTC needs to be engaged, as of June 2026, PTC only provides Implementer product support from 8:00 AM EST through 6:00 PM EST, Monday through Friday only.

Additional Information

CA 2E licenses generated from 8.1 onwards can be used all the way up to 8.7 provided that CA 2E is installed on the same machine. For CA 2E versions previous to 8.1, it is important to provide the correct version as determined in step 2 above. The license keys are unique for the older version.

Broadcom Technical Support does not have direct authority to generate licenses. To avoid any delays, please review Broadcom Partner Support End-Customer Guide which discusses how to submit a non-technical case appropriate for license requests.

The original license key files from prior requests will not serve any purpose when requesting updated or replacement licenses. Such files cannot be reverse engineered to determine their purpose.
The Financials Model may not work after applying a new license for 2E. This is because a separate license is required for this model. If you find this situation, please use the recommended procedure above to request a special license for the Financials model.
CA 2E Runtime environments do NOT require a license. The definition of a CA 2E Runtime environment is that they can only execute materials generated by other 2E environments, and have no development capability of their own. A quick way to test if the given CA 2E environment is runtime only would be to try running the Start CA 2E command (YSTRY2). If the system is set up purely for runtime, it will fail to find the design environment, model definitions, or throw an authorization/object-not-found error because design tools are absent.
