Issue/Introduction

When opening Microsoft Project (MSP), the Clarity Integration tab / toolbar is missing.

Checking MSP's Add-Ins list, it appears as Inactive (or may also be disabled), and its Load Behavior is 'Unloaded' under COM Add-Ins section:

Manually enabling it makes the toolbar appear, but after closing and starting MSP, the toolbar is missing again.

Cause

A likely cause is that MSP crashed and the add-in has been unloaded by Microsoft Project as a precaution measure so that the program can be started normally.

Resolution

Update the LoadBehavior entry in the registry for the CAClarityAddin after taking a backup of the registry:

Important: This resolution involves editing the Windows registry. Make sure that you are familiar with editing the Windows Registry and back up any key or value that you modify so that you can undo the changes and roll back if necessary.

  1. Open the Registry Editor (Start Menu > type 'regedit';)
    • or use your keyboard Windows key + R and type 'regedit' in the Run dialog.
  2. Navigate to the following registry key(s).
    • Note that it is likely that only one or two of the following keys exist, depending on the integration version and bit level (32/64 bits) of both your integration and system. You may have to check multiple paths below as one key may have the correct value and another may not be correct.
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\MS Project\Addins\CAPPMAddIn
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Office\MS Project\Addins\CAPPMAddIn
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\MS Project\Addins\CAClarityAddin
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Office\MS Project\Addins\CAClarityAddin
  1. Click on the LoadBehavior attribute.
  2. If the value is other than '0x00000003 (3)', double-click it and set its value data to Hexadecimal or Decimal '3' ('Load at Startup').

'Unloaded' is '0x0000000 (0)') which causes the issue with the addin being inactive

    5. Once the above change is complete, reopen MSP and validate the addin now appears.
