Issue/Introduction
Users attempting to upgrade from Aria Operations 8.18.7 to VCF Operations versions 9.0.x or 9.1.0.x may experience cluster failures during the update process.
Environment
- VMware Aria Operations 8.18.7
- VCF Operations 9.0.x, 9.1.0.x
Cause
The packages in the underlying Photon OS in Aria Operations 8.18.7 are newer than the packages in VCF Operations versions prior to 9.1.1.0. Applying any of the VCF Operations versions prior to 9.1.1.0 introduce back in time issues that can leave the VCF Operations cluster inoperable.
Resolution
To upgrade Aria Operations 8.18.7, you must upgrade directly to VCF Operations 9.1.1.0 or later.
Upgrade Steps
- Snapshot: Create Snapshots of the VCF Operations Nodes Before You Upgrade
- Upgrade: Perform the Upgrade to VCF Operations 9.1.1.0
- Warning: Do not attempt to upgrade to 9.0.x or 9.1.0.x from version 8.18.7.
- Continue VCF 5.2.x upgrade path: Upgrading a VCF Instance from Version 5.2.x to Version 9.1.x
