Issue/Introduction

  1. When attempting to upgrade VMware Aria Operations from 8.18.6 to 8.18.7, the installation fails during the .pak file upload phase.

  2. An "upload failed" error message is consistently displayed across different web browsers, completely blocking the UI-based installation process.

Environment

Aria ops. 8.18.x

TCP: 5.1

Cause

The UI-based upload process fails due to an underlying timeout or service constraint within the Aria Operations administration interface, typically caused by network inconsistencies or connectivity issues between the cluster nodes during .pak file distribution.

Resolution

To resolve this issue and successfully upgrade the cluster, bypass the UI upload constraint by performing a manual upgrade via the API:

  1. Perform a graceful shutdown of the Aria Operations cluster.

  2. Take offline snapshots of all cluster nodes to ensure a safe rollback point.

  3. Power the nodes back on.

  4. Proceed with the manual upgrade process using the API to distribute and execute the .pak file.

  5. Monitor the upgrade activity and validate the overall environment health upon completion.
