Issue/Introduction

During the upgrade of VMware Aria Operations, the upgrade progress indicator may remain at step 9 of 14 for an extended duration.

Environment

8.18.x

Cause

This is expected behavior. The complete upgrade process for VMware Aria Operations typically requires between 2 to 4 hours. Specific phases, such as step 9 of 14, involve extensive background processing, data migration, or database operations that require significant time to complete before updating the progress in the user interface.

Resolution

No intervention or troubleshooting is required.

  1. Allow the upgrade process to proceed naturally without restarting the appliance, services, or the upgrade sequence.

  2. To verify the system is still actively processing the upgrade, review the active upgrade logs via SSH. The logs will show ongoing background activity without active fault signatures or error entries.

  3. The process will eventually transition to step 10 of 14 and continue sequentially until reaching successful completion at step 14 of 14.

Additional Information

Please be advised that upgrading to version 8.16 or later requires a mandatory redeployment of all Remote Collectors and Lite Cloud Proxies with Cloud Proxy. This step must be completed immediately following the upgrade.
