Issue/Introduction

NOTE: The upgrade to Aria Operations 8.16 or later will fail if there are Remote Collectors in your environment.

Starting with Aria Operations 8.16, the use of Remote Collectors is deprecated.
Upgrades to version 8.16 or later are not permitted if Remote Collectors or converted Cloud Proxies are in use.
Therefore, it is necessary to replace all Remote Collectors with Cloud Proxies to proceed with the upgrade.

Environment

Aria Operations 8.16.x
Aria Operations 8.17.x

Cause

Remote Collectors or converted Cloud Proxies are no longer supported from version 8.16 onwards. To upgrade to 8.16 or a later release, replacing all Remote Collectors / converted Cloud Proxies with full version of Cloud Proxies is mandatory.

Resolution

Follow the below steps to replace a Remote Collector with a Cloud Proxy:
  • Record Configuration: Note the configuration details from the remote collector's vApp section in vCenter if you plan to use the same IP and FQDN for the new Cloud Proxy deployment.
  • Power Off: Shut down the Remote Collector from vCenter.
  • Remove from UI: From the Aria Operations UI, navigate to Data sources > Cloud Proxies section and remove the existing Remote Collector.

  • Download OVA: From Aria operations UI, navigate to Data sources > Cloud Proxies section and download the OVA file.
  • Deploy OVA: Use the following document to deploy the OVA from vCenter: Deployment Guide.
  • Verify Deployment: After the deployment is complete, verify the newly deployed cloud proxy in the Data sources > Cloud Proxies section.

Note: The data collection will be stopped from the time we shutdown the Remote Collector till we deploy a new Cloud Proxy.

Additional Information

  • If you are using a collector group, you must add new cloud proxies and remove the Remote Collectors from the collector group.
  • It is recommended that if you are not already using a collector group, create a new collector group and add newly deployed Cloud Proxies into it. Reassign all adapter instances that were previously associated with Remote Collectors to the newly created collector group.
