Issue/Introduction

After updating Machine SSL certificates on a vCenter Server within a VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) on VxRail environment, the following symptoms occur:

  • vSphere Client displays the error: The VxRail Manager system information is not found.
  • The Host Monitor view displays: Unable to show physical view due to a failure of loading physical view data for the host ####.
  • The Enter Maintenance Mode task remains on an infinite loading loop.
  • vSAN Services management view fails to populate.
  • vSAN Health reports a Stats primary election alarm.

Environment

    • VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 4.x, 5.x
    • VMware vSAN
    • VxRail Manager

Cause

The issue is caused by a secure communication breakdown and certificate trust desynchronization between vCenter Server, the ESXi cluster hosts, and the VxRail Manager appliance. When vCenter updates its SSL certificates, host management daemons drop sessions due to unverified or mismatching SSL thumbprints in internal lookup stores.

Resolution

Resynchronize host trust and management agents using the following steps:

  1. Renew Host Certificates
    • In the vSphere Client, navigate to the affected host.
    • Go to Configure > System > Certificate.
    • Click Renew to refresh the host's SSL certificate and establish trust with the new vCenter CA.
  2. Restart vSAN Management Daemon
    • Access the ESXi host CLI via SSH.
    • Restart the management agent:
    bash
    /etc/init.d/vsanmgmtd restart
  3. Sync VxRail Manager
    • If VxRail Manager status alerts persist after establishing host-level trust, engage the hardware platform support team to manually sync companion extension credentials.
