Issue/Introduction

This article addresses issues where Microsoft Azure Savings Plan costs appear unevenly or unfairly distributed when viewed through Owner tags or perspectives in CloudHealth. Users may observe Savings Plan charges attributed to resource owners who are not the major consumers or where resources (such as large VMs covered by Reserved Instances) should be excluded from allocation.

Environment

  • Product: CloudHealth by Broadcom
  • Cloud Provider: Microsoft Azure
  • Feature: FlexReports, Cost Reallocation, Savings Plan Orders – Monthly

Cause

Active cost reallocation rules within the CloudHealth platform impact how Savings Plan costs are attributed. This automatic distribution logic may reassign costs based on specific platform logic rather than raw consumption data, resulting in cost attribution distortion at the Owner level.

Resolution

To view costs that more closely align with actual consumption or original Azure portal values and bypass reallocation logic, adjust your FlexReport settings:

  1. Open the relevant FlexReport.
  2. Locate the Y-Axis configuration settings.
  3. Change the Y-Axis selection to one of the following options:
    • Consumption Costs
    • Total Cost before Reallocation (Original)($)
