1. In VMware Aria Operations UI, it took more than 24 hours for VMs' custom property attributes to show up when trying to create a view based on these custom attributes. These attributes are showing up fine for the VMs in vSphere Client UI on the day when they were configured.
2. In VMware Aria Operations UI, these attributes may be visible on the VM object > Metrics under Summary or Properties sections while remaining hidden in the View picker when trying to edit the view.
VMware Aria Operations 8.18.x
The property list displayed by default in the View creation interface relies on a random sampling of the environment.
This design prevents browser performance degradation that would occur if the UI attempted to load the exhaustive list of every metric and property across the database simultaneously. Because it is a sampled list, sparsely populated attributes may not appear automatically.
Follow these steps to bypass the sampling cache:
Create a new custom attribute on a test virtual machine within the vSphere Client UI.
Wait 5 minutes for the standard collection cycle to process.
In Aria Operations UI, use the Global Search bar at the top to locate and open the test virtual machine.
Go to Metrics, expand Properties, and check the Summary section to confirm the new custom attribute has been collected.
Navigate to Operations > Views and edit your View.
Click the Select Object button and select the test virtual machine. The custom attribute will now be available for selection.
