Configure SNMP Notifications

Issue/Introduction

• Send SNMP trap to manager
• Send SNMP trap to NetCool probe

Environment

• Aria Ops/Operations, vROps 8.18
• VCF: 4.5, 5.x, 5.0, 5.1, 5.2, 8.x 9.x
• TCP: 3, 4.x, 4.0, 4.0.1, 5.x, 5.0. 5.0.1, 5.0.2

Resolution

1. Create an alert notification. See Notification Rules for Alerts.

   1. Go to Operations > Configurations > Notifications.

   2. Click ADD.

      1. On step 3: 

         1. click on CREATE NEW INSTANCE.

         2. Select SNMP Trap Plugin from the Outbound method drop-down menu

      2. Configure the SNMP Outbound Instance. See Add an SNMP Trap Plug-In for VMware Aria Operations Outbound Alerts.

1. • • SNMPv3 used when the username is configured in the outbound settings.

     • SNMPv2 is used when the username is left blank. 

2. Obtain and install the SNMP MIB modules. See SNMP MIB module file download

3. Open UDP port 162 from all data nodes to the SNMP manager.

4. Validate the Outbound Notification or Notification payload:

• • TCPDUMP package onto Aria Operations 
  • Alert is not being sent by SNMP Trap in Aria Operations
