Issue/Introduction

• This article provides information on downloading the VMware SNMP MIB Modules.
• Issue seen with loading mib files *-AGENTCAP-MIB.mib in 3rd party management systems is also addressed.

Environment

• VMware NSX
• VMware Aria Operations for Networks
• VMware vCenter Server
• VMware vSphere ESXi

Cause

• The latest VMware MIB files are in Broadcom Support Portal (ex: VMware ESXi SNMP MIB Module).
• AGENTCAP mib files do not convey actual APIs, only related to what VERSION of an ESXi, NSX, vCenter Server supports what VERSION of a MIB files (IF-MIB, VMWARE-SYSTEM-MIB, etc).

Resolution

For the latest VMware MIB files for the VMware SNMP MIB Module, refer to the "VMware-mibs-9.0.1NX-24882621.zip" file attached in this article.

Old VMware MIB files can be found within the Broadcom Support Portal.

• Login into Broadcom Support Portal
• My Dashboard - VMware Cloud Foundation => My Downloads => Select VMware vSphere => Select an edition and version
• Select Under Drivers & Tools tab and search keyword for MIB
  

For AGENTCAP mib files

• Download and extract the VMware SNMP MIB Module "VMware-mibs-9.0.1NX-24882621.zip" file attached in this article.

Notes

• MIB file can also be found in NSX manager: /opt/vmware/nsx-monitoring/python/nsx_monitoring/VMWARE-NSX-MIB.mib
• If the SNMP monitoring tool fails to import the MIB file (e.g. "Problem during parsing."), use the latest version downloaded from this KB article. 
• The MIB's are backward compatible. Download a new version that the environment supports.
• For Aria Operations for Networks, MIB support is available in version 3.4 and later.
• Do not load these files into the management system unless it supports loading AGENTCAPS mib modules.
