Issue/Introduction

  • In vCenter Server VAMI UI > Monitor > Disks > core partition usage exceeds 75%.
  • In vSphere Client > vCenter Server > Monitor > Issues and Alarms > Triggered Alarms, the alarm "Diagnostics Disk Exhaustion on ***" is triggered.
    Description:
vCenter Diagnostics File System Resource status changed from *** to Yellow on <VCSA の FQDN> for continuous Disk utilization 75 percent in 10.0 mins
If /storage/core exceeds 85%, the following description appears.
vCenter Diagnostics File System Resource status changed from *** to Red on <VCSA の FQDN> for continuous Disk utilization 85 percent in 10.0 mins
  • On the VCSA, the output of the df command shows that Use% has exceeded 75%
    # df
Filesystem                                  1K-blocks     Used Available Use% Mounted on
    /dev/mapper/core_vg-core                          ***      ***       ***  80% /storage/core

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 8.*

Cause

This is because the /storage/core partition usage has remained above 75% for more than 10 minutes.

Resolution

To consider increasing the free space under /storage/core. Unnecessary files can be removed using the rm -f command.

If investigation of the files under /storage/core is required, open a case with Broadcom Support and include this KB article ID (416009) in the problem description.

Additional Information

vCenter Server Appliance disk space is full
/storage/core partition full due to core files in vCenter Server Appliance
