Issue/Introduction
NSX deployment is being upgraded to a version of NSX 4.X.
After uploading of the NSX upgrade MUB file the next button is greyed out and unavailable.
A warning is presented on screen as per the screenshot below stating "New NSX Upgrade version is not compatible with current NSX version, you cannot upgrade to this version".
Environment
VMware NSX T 3.X VMware NSX 4.X
Cause
This is an automated version check to ensure the intended upgrade path is supported. It will not allow you to continue an upgrade that is not supported.
The upgrade is not supported since the current version being upgraded from, was finalized and released after the target upgrade version. This is done to prevent a back in time upgrade.
As an example upgrading from 3.2.4.1 to 4.1.2.5 is not a supported upgrade path, since version 3.2.4.1 was released in October 2024, but 4.1.2.5 was released earlier in July 2024.
Resolution
Review the supported upgrade paths on the Interoperability Matrix - NSX supported upgrade paths page and ensure the version uploaded is valid to upgrade to from your currently installed version. To retry the upgrade simply re-upload the correct MUB for a supported version and continue as normal.
