Issue/Introduction

We need to add more memory and CPU to our vertica hosts.

What is the correct procedure to insure that vertica can make use of the new resources and minimize impact and data loss?

Resolution

  1. Shut down vertica using adminTools.
  2. Add new resources.

NOTE - the same resources must be added to ALL nodes.

  1. Reboot all vertica hosts.
  2. Start vertica with adminTools.

Additional Information

Vertica will automatically detect the new resources and adjust memory pools dynamically.

Vertica automatically uses up to 95% of the max memory on the box, after reboot.

general resource pool is set to 95% maxmemorysize OOTB.  Nothing to do when adding more memory to DR boxes.
