Issue/Introduction

JBoss application server fails to start Identity Manager with multiple missing dependency errors. This issue typically occurs when an older iam_im.ear file is migrated to a new environment or an upgrade is applied to an existing system.

Symptoms The JBoss console or server log displays the following errors:

Environment

  • JBoss EAP 6.4.2.GA (AS 7.5.2.Final)
  • Identity Manager 14.x
  • Migrated or upgraded environments

Cause

The addition of JAR files from previous versions causes conflicts when the application server begins the startup process.

Resolution

Perform one of the following two solutions to resolve the dependency conflicts:

Option 1: Parallel Migration

  1. Install a new deployment of Identity Manager.
  2. Perform a parallel migration by manually moving custom code deployed in the .ear file to the new installation.

Option 2: Library File Replacement

  1. Install a deployment of Identity Manager on a separate machine.
  2. Back up the existing library folders on the live system to a location outside of the .ear folder.
  3. Copy the library file locations from the new deployment to the live system:
    • iam_im.ear/library
    • iam_im.ear/ca-nim-sm.war/WEB-INF/lib
    • iam_im.ear/user_console.war/WEB-INF/lib
    • Note: If custom endpoints were deployed, import the JAR file back into the user_console.war location.

If a separate deployment cannot be installed to gather the necessary JAR files, open a support case. Attach a zipped iam_im.ear file for review. Refer to Contact Broadcom Support for assistance.
