Issue/Introduction

  • For any Adapter instances, the alert Objects are not receiving data from adapter instance is triggered and cancelled instantly. (i.e., start time and cancel time will be the same).
  • The alert may also be constant but appears to be a false positive
  • All integrations are showing green and are collecting.

Environment

  • VCF Operations 9.0.x
  • VCF Operations 9.1 
  • VMware Aria Operations 8.18.x

Resolution

This is a known issue with VCF/Aria Operations
There is currently no resolution.  Use the steps detailed in the workaround section.

Workaround:

As the alert is currently not working as expected, it is recommended to disable this alert in the policy.
If there is any valid issue with the adapter instance, you will still be notified with the alert Adapter instance is not receiving data.

How to disable this alert:

For Aria Operations 8.18.x 

  1. Navigate to Operations > Configurations > Policies 
  2. Select the Policy that is active.
  3. Click Edit Policy, then click Alerts and Symptoms.
  4. Filter for the alert, Objects are not receiving data from adapter instance.
  5. Change the State from Activated to Deactivated.
  6. Filter for the symptom Objects are not receiving data from adapter instance
  7. Change the State from Activated to Deactivated.
  8. Click Save to finish.

For VCF Operations 9.0.x

  1. Navigate to Infrastructure Operations > Configurations > Policy Definition
  2. Select the Policy that is active.
  3. Click Edit Policy, then click Alerts and Symptoms.
  4. Filter for the alert, Objects are not receiving data from adapter instance.
  5. Change the State from Activated to Deactivated.
  6. Filter for the symptom Objects are not receiving data from adapter instance
  7. Change the State from Activated to Deactivated.
  8. Click Save to finish.

For VCF Operations 9.1

  1. Navigate to Administration > Configurations > Policy Definition
  2. Select the Policy that is active.
  3. Click Edit Policy, then click Alerts and Symptoms.
  4. Filter for the alert, Objects are not receiving data from adapter instance.
  5. Change the State from Activated to Deactivated.
  6. Filter for the symptom Objects are not receiving data from adapter instance
  7. Change the State from Activated to Deactivated.
  8. Click Save to finish

Additional Information

If the alerts trigger even after deactivating the alerts, put the objects in maintenance mode and take them out manually. 

Example: If the alert triggers on VMware Heath Infrastructure Adapter, put this adapter in maintenance mode manually for 5 minutes.
