Issue/Introduction

There is an alert "Objects are not receiving data from adapter instance" and cannot seem to pinpoint what devices are affected.

Environment

  • VCF Operations 9.0.x
  • VMware Aria Operations 8.18.x

Cause

When an object that normally receives data from an adapter during a collection cycle does not receive data in the latest collection cycle, the Instance Generated|Number of No Data Receiving Objects metric for the adapter instance is changed. The alert is triggered against an adapter when the Number of No Data Receiving Objects metric is > 0 by default.

Resolution

  1. Navigate to Alerts.
    • VCF Operations > Infrastructure Operations > Alerts
    • Aria Operations > Operations > Alerts
  2. Click on the Alert column for the "Objects are not receiving data from adapter instance" alert to view the alert details
  3. Note the Number of No Data Receiving Objects metric value in the Alert Basis > Symptoms panel.
  4. Use the Show Objects link at the top of the page to review an Inventory view of the specific object(s) not receiving data.
  5. Review the identified objects in the Data Source that is collected by the adapter instance

Example: For a VM collected by a vCenter adapter instance, log in to the vSphere Client and review the VM in the vCenter for possible issues.
  6. If no issues are identified in the Data Source, return to the Inventory view of the object(s) not receiving data in the UI
    • VCF Operations 9.0.x > Infrastructure Operations > Configurations > Inventory Management
    • Aria Operations 8.18.x > Operations > Configurations > Inventory Management
  7. Select the object(s) and click the Start Maintenance button

  8. Select the I will return to end maintenance myself. radio button and click OK
  9. Click the Deselect All button

  10. Expand Collection States and select In Maintenance(Manual)
  11. Select the object(s) placed in maintenance in step 7 and click the End Maintenance button
