Issue/Introduction

VCF deployment pre-validation fails at DNS resolution with Error 'Reverse DNS lookup failed for IP ##.##.##.##. Unknown IP or record mismatch.

/var/log/vmware/vcf/domainmanager.log in the VCF installer reports below error stack:

YYYY-MM-DDThh:mm:ss.049+0000 ERROR [vcf_dm,###############################,f4ad] [c.v.e.s.v.a.ValidateProductFqdnsAction,dm-exec-#]  Could not resolve IP address ##.#.#.## java.lang.RuntimeException: Retriable operation 'Resolve IP address ##.#.#.##' failed to complete after 3 retries.

Caused by: java.lang.IllegalStateException: Cannot determine host name for IP address ##.#.#.##

 

Environment

 VMware Cloud Foundation version 9.X

Cause

This issue was caused by a DNS name resolution problem that stemmed from incorrect DNS configuration on the VCF installer appliance.

Resolution

1. Cancel the running task.
2. Update DNS Server IP Address in the VCF Installer through Command Line Configure/Update DNS Server IP Address in SDDC Manager or the VCF Installer through Command Line
3. Reboot the VCF installer.
4. Start the task using the existing JSON file.
