VMware NSX VCF Operations for Networks

Issue/Introduction

  • In NSX Manager GUI, navigate to System Fabric Hosts - This page will not load
  • An alarm may appear with the text: "Error: Failed to fetch Inventory details. Please contact the administrator. Error: Search index is out of sync for... Run the 'start search resynch all' CLI command on the NSX appliance to resync."
  • In the NSX Manager appliances, in /var/log/proton/nsxapi.log, you may see the following log line:
    2025-MM-DDTHH:MM:SS.726Z  WARN UfoDelayedIndexer-0 TransportZoneQueryDao 76838 FABRIC [nsx@6876 comp="nsx-manager" level="WARNING" subcomp="manager"] TransportZone fetch failed for TransportZone/########-####-####-####-############.
    java.lang.NullPointerException: null

Environment

  • VMware NSX-T 3.2.x
  • VMware NSX 4.x
  • VCF Operations for Networks 6.14.1 and older (formerly vRealize Network Insight (vRNI) and formerly Aria Operations for Networks(AON))

Cause

This symptom can occur if any of the following events happen:

  • An vRNI/AON password change
  • Disconnecting from SAAS instance to an on-prem instance of vRNI/AON
  • Disconnecting vRNI/AON from an NSX instance

All of these events will trigger the workflow from vRNI/AON/VCF Operations for Networks that will delete the Transport Zone Profile (TZP) from the NSX database. However, multiple transport nodes (ESXi hosts) will continue referencing this deleted TZP, causing the "search index is out of sync" message.

DO NOT REBOOT THE NSX MANAGER APPLIANCES.

Rebooting the NSX Manager appliances can cause a datapath outage.

Resolution

Resolved in VMware NSX 4.2.1.1 and newer.

If you believe you are experiencing this symptom, please open a case with Broadcom Support.

Additional Information

More information regarding vRNI/AON/VCF Operations for Networks can be found in KB401499.
