Issue/Introduction

  • Clean installation of VCF and NCP
  • The description on opsmanager UI for "Enable NSX-T Policy API"

If this option is enabled, NCP will connect to NSX Manager via Policy API. For new deployment, this value must be enabled, even if it is disabled here, it will be over-written
to enable, the corresponding properties, for example, t1 router, ip blocks must also be created via policy api. For upgrading, the value will be the same with previous version.

  • If this option is enabled, NCP will connect to NSX Manager via Policy API.

Environment

Tanzu Application Service (TAS) using NCP version <9.0 and >=4.1.2 for following combination:

NCP 4.2.0
NCP 4.2.1.x
NCP 4.2.2
NCP 4.2.3

Cause

The description on opsmanager UI for "Enable NSX-T Policy API" is incorrect, the correct message it should be: "If this option is enabled, NCP will connect to NSX Manager via Policy API."

If you are using policy resources for the cluster, eg: ip-pool, edge-cluster, external ip-block etc, please check this checkbox, if not, the cluster will be MP mode, and the installation will fail.

Resolution

This issue is resolved in VMware NCP 9.0.0, available at Broadcom downloads.

If you are having difficulty finding and downloading software, please review the Download Broadcom products and software KB.

Workaround:

  • If you want to deploy policy API mode cluster, please check the checkbox.
  • If you are configuring a MP environment, and you want to deploy MP api mode cluster, please uncheck the checkbox.

Additional Information

From NCP 9.0, the logic of the fresh deployment is as current description, which will be forcible to use policy API mode.
