Compute Manager Connection Status Down with Invalid Credentials or Extensions Not Valid Error

Issue/Introduction

The Compute Manager 'Connection Status' in the VMware NSX UI shows as Down.

 When attempting to resolve the "Down" status on the Compute Manager in the NSX Manager UI, the following error is encountered: Error: Invalid credentials provided or extensions not valid for compute manager with <REDACTED_ID>

Cause

The credentials stored for the Compute Manager (vCenter Server) are incorrect or expired, or the required extensions/thumbprints are not registered correctly. This commonly occurs following a vCenter Server certificate replacement or an update to the [email protected] password.

Resolution

1. Log in to the NSX Manager UI.
   
   
2. Navigate to System > Fabric > Compute Managers.
   
   
3. Locate the affected Compute Manager showing as Down.
   
   
4. Click Down under the Status column to open the error details.
   
   
5. Click Resolve. This prompts you to re-enter the vCenter Server credentials.
   
   
6. Enter the updated [email protected] credentials.
   
   
7. Click Save.
   
   
8. The status should update and the Compute Manager should return to an Up state once the connection is successfully re-established.

If the issue persists, verify the following:

1. Ensure the administrator account has the required privileges in vCenter Server.
   
   
2. Validate network connectivity between the NSX Manager and vCenter Server, and check for any certificate-related warnings in Home > Alarms.
   
   
3. Confirm all required ports are open between the NSX Manager and vCenter Server.
