Issue/Introduction

  • vCenter patch fails with error "There is not enough space on the disk(s). Increase disk space and try again." in VAMI page.
  • When login to vCenter webui, "no healthy upstream" error is displayed.
  • There's no disk usage issue on any of the vCenter partition when checking with df -h command in vCenter command line.
  • Vmdird state is in standalone mode when checking with /usr/lib/vmware-vmdir/bin/vdcadmintool command option 6

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 7.0
VMware vCenter Server 8.0

Cause

Vmdird is in standalone state. This can cause incorrect detection of disk space usage on vCenter during patch.

Resolution

Correct vmdird state and set it to normal following below procedure:
"Vmdir service is not in Normal state", vCenter Server upgrade pre-check fails due to VMDIR in Standalone mode
