Issue/Introduction

  • The source Windows vCenter Server remains powered on.
  • Clicking Retry fails immediately at the same point.
  • The following error is logged in /var/log/vmware/upgrade/upgrade-export.log on the appliance:

Environment

VMware vCenter Server

Cause

The target vCenter Appliance lacks sufficient space on the /storage/seat partition to accommodate all upgrade data.

Resolution

Option 1:

Initiate the Migration again. In stage 1, choose the next higher deployment size of the appliance VM.

Option 2:

  1. Complete Stage 1 of upgrade. Power off the deployed vCenter/ Add an additional 50GB space to 'hard disk 8' viz. /storage/seat partition from the ESXi host client.
  2. Take a snapshot of this vcenter appliance.
  3. Open the temporary IP on port 5480 on a browser to complete the rest of the upgrade.(https://temporary_ip:5480)

Option 3:

  1. Follow the steps in KB to identify large tables: Determining where growth is occurring in the vCenter Server database
  2. Truncate the large tables identified in the source vCenter's database, and then rerun the migration process.

Impact/Risks:
