Best practices to upgrade oi_connector and apm_bridge

Issue/Introduction

This article includes the recommended steps to perform oi_connector and apm_bridge probe upgrade or patching.

These steps apply for every  oi_connector or apm_bridge version change.

Environment

• DX UIM 23.4.*
• apm_bridge any version upgrade
• oi_connector any version upgrade

 

Cause

Guidance / PPM Adapter update

Resolution

When upgrading to a new version or patch of oi_connector or apm_bridge follow the steps below. 

The steps below are required for the the UI to be updated and in line to the new version. 

An additional steps is also required as the startup section might be overwritten during the patching (Step 7)

 

Upgrade apm_bridge:

 

1. Deactivate the apm_bridge probe and backup the amp_bridge.cfg
   
   
2. Deploy the amp_bridge upgraded version or Hotfix/package
   
   
3. Deactivate the ppm probe.
   
   
4. From the Nimsoft directory where the apm_bridge probe is deployed, copy the latest jar
   Example for "apm_bridge-adapter-2.03.jar" or "apm_bridge-adapter-2.01.jar" (Depending on the fix deployed)
   
   
   
5. Navigate to:
   Nimsoft\\probes\\service\\ppm\\adapterlib
   
   And remove any older apm_bridge-adapter JARs and paste the newly copied "apm_bridge-adapter-2.03.jar". or "apm_bridge-adapter-2.01.jar"  (Depending on the fix deployed)
   
   
6. Activate the ppm probe.
   
7. IMPORTANT: From the backup file restore the startup section to the startup values configured before the upgrade. Or manually change the Java startup options previously configured.

   options = -Xms2g -Xmx4g -Dfile.encoding=UTF-8
</startup>
   
   
   
   
8. Activate the apm_bridge probe
    

 

Upgrade oi_connector:

1. Deactivate the oi_connector: probe.
   
   
2. Deploy the oi_connector upgraded version or Hotfix/package
   
   
3. Deactivate the ppm probe.
   
   
4. From the Nimsoft directory where the apm_bridge probe is deployed, copy the latest jar
   Example for "oi_connector-2.03.jar"  (Depending on the fix deployed)
   
   
   
5. Navigate to:
   Nimsoft\\probes\\service\\ppm\\adapterlib
   
   And remove any older oi_connector-adapter JARs and paste the newly copied Example: "oi_connector-2.03.jar". (Depending on the fix deployed)
   
   
6. Activate the ppm probe.
