Issue/Introduction

If the notification database has an excessively high number of pending notifications that are no longer required, you can clear them at once using the dxemptydb tool. This procedure applies to the Virtual Appliance 14.5 Linux environment.

Environment

Virtual Appliance 14.5

Cause

The notification DSA (Directory System Agent) queue may become overloaded due to backlogs, leading to excessive pending notifications that are of no importance.

Resolution

Warning: Clearing the notification database will lead to data loss. Updates from the Provisioning Server will not be applied to the Identity Manager server, and there is no automatic way to resync the two layers.

  1. Connect to the Virtual Appliance Linux console using a terminal client (e.g., Putty).
  2. Switch to the dsa user: su - dsa
  3. Check the status of the DSA to identify the notification service: dxserver status Example output: ca-prov-srv-01-impd-notify stopped
  4. Stop the notification service in the Provisioning Manager: dxserver stop ca-prov-srv-01-impd-notify
  5. Clear the notification database: dxemptydb ca-prov-srv-01-impd-notify (You should see the message "Successfully created")
  6. Restart the notification service: dxserver start ca-prov-srv-01-impd-notify
  7. Verify the process activity in the etanotify log: /opt/CA/IdentityManager/ProvisioningServer/logs
  8. Stop and restart the Provisioning Server service to ensure container objects are recreated in the notify DSA.
  9. Verify the object class by connecting to the notify DSA on port 20404 to confirm the newly created container object has objectclass=eTDomainComponent.
