Rally Users seeing a "Permission Error" when logging in or accessing different projects

Issue/Introduction

  • When I login to Rally, I receive an error stating:
    • Permission Error
      "Sorry - you tried to view a page in a project that you don't have access to"
      .
  • This issue has also been seen when navigating to a different project.
  • Alternatively, you may have been logged out of Agile Central and see the error message:
    • "You no longer have access to the current project."

Cause

  • The project that is bookmarked (or was being accessed) is no longer available for the user and will override their default settings.
    • This is usually caused by an administrator making a change to the user's project permissions.
  • This can also be caused by having the user's Default Project set to a project the user no longer has permissions to.  
    • This is usually caused by an administrator making a change to the user's project permissions.

Resolution

  • The project that is bookmarked (or was being accessed) is no longer available for the user and will override their default settings..
    • When this occurs:
      • Change the bookmark to https://rally1.rallydev.com/ otherwise proceed to the next step
      • Disable user sessions.  
    • Navigate to Rally without using a bookmark/link at https://rally1.rallydev.com/ or by using your Subscriptions SSO page 
    • Login if needed.
  • If this issue is a result of a Default Project permission issue
    • Change your default project.  How to change your default project
    • Disable user sessions.  
    • Navigate to Rally without using a bookmark/link at https://rally1.rallydev.com/ or by using your Subscriptions SSO page 
    • Login if needed.
