How to provide missing or override device Vendor

Issue/Introduction

evices in DX NetOps CA Performance Management (CAPM) are discovered via SNMP. Occasionally, the reported sysObjectID may map to a vendor name that is missing or requires adjustment (e.g., merging entities or correcting naming). This article describes how to manually override discovered discovery data using configuration files on the Data Collector.

Environment

 

• DX NetOps CA Performance Management (all supported releases)
• Data Aggregator / Data Collector

 

Cause

The device sysObjectID OID value returned by the device is not mapped to the desired name in the current CAPM certification database.

Resolution

To override the Vendor or Model name, create a mapping file on all Data Collectors in the environment.

1. Navigate to the configuration directory:
   • For versions 25.4.3 and earlier: /opt/IMDataCollector/apache*/etc
   • For versions 25.4.4 and newer: /opt/IMDataCollector/config/
2. Create a file named VendorMap.cfg 
3. Add the mapping using the format <Vendor Id from sysObjectID> = Value
   • Example: 9 = Cisco
     
     In this case the syObjectId OID (1.3.6.1.2.1.1.2.0) started with 1.3.6.1.4.1.9
