Issue/Introduction

When using the auto-update feature for the Windows agent in Aria Operations for Logs, the update process fails. Specifically, Windows servers currently running agent version 8.18.5 are unable to automatically upgrade to version 8.18.7 and remain stuck on the older version.

Verified the liagent.ini (C:\ProgramData\VMware\Log Insight Agent\liagent.ini) configuration (central_config=yes and auto_update=yes are set correctly).

Environment

Aria Operations for Logs 8.18.7

Cause

This issue is caused by a process naming mismatch within the upgrader component. During the auto-update sequence, the upgrader attempts to locate the running Windows Agent process using an incorrect name. Because it cannot identify the running process, it fails to shut down the active agent, which completely blocks the installation of the new version.

Resolution

This is a known issue. The permanent fix for this process naming mismatch will be delivered in a future release of Aria Operations for Logs version 8.18.x.

Note
  • To restore the auto-upgrade functionality, the affected Windows servers must be manually upgraded to a version containing the fix (once released).
  • Agent version 8.18.7 does not contain the fix for this issue. If you choose to manually upgrade the agents to 8.18.7 now to maintain compliance or feature parity, the auto-update mechanism will still be broken. Required to perform another manual upgrade to the version carrying the fix (once released) in the future to finally restore the automatic update functionality.
