Issue/Introduction

When attempting to enable High Availability (HA) via the VMware vCenter UI after the upgrade the operation fails. The following exact error message is displayed:
"A general system error occurred: Image is not valid. The ESXi version ######### cannot be found in depot."

Environment

  • VMware vCenter Server 8.0.x
  • VMware vSphere Lifecycle Manager (vLCM) enabled clusters

Cause

The error "Image is not valid" occurs because the Lifecycle Manager repository URLs are missing or outdated, preventing the system from validating the ESXi image depot during HA configuration.

Resolution

  1. Obtain the required Broadcom support token from the Broadcom Support Portal by following the KB article below:
VCF authenticated downloads configuration update instructions

  2. Update the download source settings by inputting the unique Broadcom token to establish authenticated access referring to the KB article below:
Error: A general system error occurred: Failed to download VIB(s): Error: HTTP Error Code: 403, vLCM fails to download the ESXi patches and images from online repositories

  3. Initiate a manual "Sync Updates" task to synchronize the library and populate the vLCM depot with the latest ESXi versions.

  4. Return to the affected cluster, navigate to Configure > vSphere HA, and attempt to enable/re-enable HA.
