Error: MP8287 Physical NIC Not Capable for ENS_INTERRUPT Mode in NSX

Issue/Introduction

During NSX Transport Node realization, the process fails with the error "Physical nic [vmnicX] is not capable for ENS_INTERRUPT mode for given HostSwitch." This error occurs when the hardware or driver configuration is incompatible with the Enhanced Data Path (EDP) feature requested in the Transport Node Profile (TNP).

Cause

The physical NICs or the installed driver modules on the ESXi host do not support the ENS_INTERRUPT mode defined in the profile. The MP8287 error specifically indicates a capability mismatch between the hardware/driver and the EDP feature.

Resolution

Resolution To resolve this error, identify the NIC capability and update the Transport Node Profile to use Standard mode if ENS is not supported:

1. Verify ENS Capability Run the following command on the affected ESXi host to check if the NIC supports ENS: esxcfg-nics -e Look for ENS Capable and INTR Capable values. If these are False, the hardware or driver does not support EDP/ENS.
   
   
2. Update Transport Node Profile If the hardware does not support ENS, modify the profile to use Standard mode:
   
   • Navigate to System > Fabric > Hosts > Transport Node Profiles.
   • Select the profile and click the Host Switch configuration.
   • Edit the profile and locate Advanced Configuration.
   • Change the HostSwitchMode from Enhanced Datapath to Standard.
   • Click Apply and Save.
3. Retry Task Return to SDDC Manager and retry the "Create Transport Node Collection" task.
