Issue/Introduction

Installing 12.1 Web Viewer for Windows and getting the error message: "LaunchAnywhere Error Could not find a valid Java virtual machine to load.  You may need to reinstall a supported Java virtual machine."

Environment

Release: Web Viewer 12.1 for Windows
Component: wbvluw

Windows Server

Cause

The install program looks for the JAVA_HOME variable and it did not point to a valid JVM.

Resolution

  1. Go to Java Downloads Oracle link  and click on Java achive to download the JDK, which will have the JVM.
  2. Define the Environment Variable JAVA_HOME on the computer, pointing to the location of the JDK/JVM if the install did not do it.
  3. Alternatively follow these instructions; Download an Open Java for Web Viewer 12.1  to use a different Java.

NOTE: Web Viewer is certified to run Java versions from 8 to 16.  Do not go higher than Java 16. We recommend that you select 11 because that is a Long Term Support (LTS) release.
Java 7 is not supported.

Additional Information

This is a prerequisite for a 12.1 Web Viewer for Windows Server Install.
