vCenter Server IP Address Change in a VMware HCX Environment

Issue/Introduction

• This article confirms the supportability and requirements for changing a vCenter Server management IP address when integrated with VMware HCX.
• In VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) and standard vSphere environments, HCX relies on the vCenter Unique Identifier (UUID) to maintain site pairing and Service Mesh integrity.

Environment

• VMware HCX 
• VMware vCenter Server 

Resolution

Changing the vCenter Server IP address is a supported operation and does not require an HCX redeployment, provided the vCenter Server FQDN and UUID remain unchanged. If the FQDN also changes, update the registration settings within the HCX Manager. It is recommended to re-authenticate with vCenter after vCenter IP change:

1. Make sure that you have a valid backup of the HCX Manager configuration before modifying network settings.
2. Update DNS records for the vCenter Server FQDN to point to the new IP address.
3. Log in to the HCX Appliance Management interface at https://####:9443.
4. Navigate to Configuration > vCenter Server and click Edit.
5. Verify the FQDN or update the IP address field if the vCenter was registered via IP.
6. Save the configuration to trigger a re-authentication with the vCenter Server.
7. Restart the app-engine and web-engine services under the Administration > Service Management tab to refresh the inventory.
8. Validate that the Site Pairing and Service Mesh status shows as "Up" in the HCX Dashboard.
