Issue/Introduction

Administrators are unable to patch ESXi hosts using vSphere Lifecycle Manager (vLCM). The "Sync Updates" task fails, and the following raw exception is displayed in the vSphere Client UI:

"A general system error occurred: com.vmware.vcIntegrity.lifecycle.depots.VibDownloadErrorInfo.Resolution com.vmware.vcIntegrity.lifecycle.depots.VibDownloadErrorInfo"

Environment

  • vCenter Server 8.0U3
  • ESXi 8.0U3
  • vSphere Lifecycle Manager (vLCM) using Broadcom Authenticated Depots

Cause

Following VMware's transition to Broadcom, public update repositories were deprecated in favor of an entitlement-based distribution model. This error occurs because the vCenter Server is attempting to authenticate against the Broadcom depot using a download token that is tied to an old, expired, or unauthorized contract number.

When the Broadcom portal rejects the unauthorized token request, vLCM fails to handle the rejection gracefully and surfaces this raw vcIntegrity Java exception in the UI instead of a standard HTTP access error.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, you must generate a new authenticated download token tied to an active contract and apply it to vCenter.

  1. Log in to the Broadcom Support Portal using an account associated with the active Site ID and current contract.
  2. Generate a new token by following the official Broadcom instructions outlined in Broadcom KB 390098: VCF Authenticated Downloads Configuration Update Instructions.
  3. Update vCenter by navigating to the vSphere Lifecycle Manager patch setup and replacing the old token with the newly generated one
  4. Retry the "Sync Updates" task to verify connectivity.
