Issue/Introduction

In VMware vCenter Server 9.1 environments integrated with HCX, repeated general system error events are generated every two minutes. The affected object is typically identified as an HCX Edge / Mobility Agent host.

Update option values: A general system error occurred

Environment

VMware vCenter 9.0 & later
VMware Cloud Foundation 9.0 and later

Cause

vCenter log collection processes attempt to collect logs from HCX Mobility Agent hosts, which triggers periodic cosmetic system error events in vCenter

Resolution

This is a known issue impacting VMware Cloud Foundation 9.x . Subscribe to this KB article to be updated if a fix version becomes available.
NOTE: This issue is cosmetic and does not impact system health or functionality.

Workarounds available for 9.0 and 9.1:

  1. Disable Audit Log Collection: Disable audit log collection in the VCF OPS UI

VCF Ops > Operate > Administration > Configurations > Log Collection > vCenter >vCenter_name >(Edit) and disable ESX Logs and ESX Audit Logs under the ESX section.

Note: Disable the log collection only if absolutely needed, else wait for next future release to be available for upgrade.

  2. Disable Unused Services: If HCX vMotion or Replication Assisted vMotion (RAV) services are not in use, disable them in the HCX Service Mesh to undeploy the Mobility Agent
