Creating alert definitions in Aria Operations 8.x is slow or timing out with "Error! Unable to save alert definition. Try again"

Issue/Introduction

• In Aria Operations 8.x, you may encounter significant delays or timeouts when attempting to create or modify alert definitions. This behavior is observed in environments containing a high number of active policies.
• Creating or modifying alert definitions takes 4-5 minutes to complete. 
• If the Aria Operations is being accessed from external network, the alert creation or modification task times out with error "Error! Unable to save alert definition. Try again" due to time out policy of 2 minutes set on the firewall.
• Reviewing web.log under /storage/log/vcops/log indicate that slow API calls are sequentially querying policies (getPolicybyIdLocalSettingsOnly) during the alert creation process. The task is delayed until all the policies are completely queried.

VMware Aria Operations 8.x

Cause

The delay during alert definition creation is caused by the presence of a high number of policies within the Aria Operations 8.18.x environment.

Resolution

This is an expected product behavior in the 8.18.x infrastructure when a high number of policies are present.

Workaround:
Currently, there is no immediate workaround available for the 8.18.x version.

Permanent Fix:
The underlying architecture is being redesigned to handle high policy counts efficiently. This optimized structure is specifically targeted for the future 9.x release.
