Error: Operation timedout in state POST_CONFIG_VIX when creating HCX Network Extension

Issue/Introduction

The HCX Network Extension creation task fails or the extension disappears from the HCX Manager UI immediately after creation. This issue typically occurs in environments where the HCX Manager cannot resolve the hostnames of the source ESXi hosts.

• HCX activity log displays error: Interconnect Service Workflow GenerateAndPostConfig failed. Error: Operation timedout in state POST_CONFIG_VIX.
• Created network extensions do not appear in the "Network Extension" tab.
• HCX created L2E segments on the destination NSX but when migrating VM to this segment, it has no network connectivity to the gateway or source VMs on the same subnet.
• The HCX Manager /common/logs/admin/app.log contains entries indicating failures to resolve ESXi host FQDNs.

Cause

1. The HCX Manager requires valid name resolution for all source ESXi hosts to successfully generate and post the interconnect configuration.
2. If the HCX Manager cannot reach a DNS server or if the DNS server is missing records for the ESXi hosts, the configuration workflow times out in the POST_CONFIG_VIX state.

Resolution

In order to resolve this issue :-

1. Ensure that HCX Manager has network connectiivty to DNS server so it can resolve ESXi host names.
2. The DNS server must have proper entries of HCX manager and ESXi host's forward and reverse lookups.
