Issue/Introduction

This article provides a technical procedure for upgrading the Dell EMC SRDF Storage Replication Adapter (SRA) from version 9.2 to 10.2 on VMware Site Recovery Manager (SRM) 9.0.1 to support PowerMax storage arrays.

Environment

  • VMware Site Recovery Manager (SRM) 9.0.1 (Build 24035640)
  • Dell EMC SRDF Storage Replication Adapter (SRA) 9.2.x, 10.2
  • PowerMax 3295, 3296

Cause

The upgrade procedure is required to establish support for PowerMax storage arrays and to resolve compatibility issues with deprecated configuration parameters from version 9.2 that result in device discovery failures (e.g., SRDF Error 1058 and SYMAPI_C_AUTHZ_NOT_AUTHORIZED).

Resolution

  1. Preparation

    • Take a file-based backup or offline snapshot of the SRM virtual appliance at both the protected and recovery sites.
    • Verify array-based replication is consistent.
    • Do not perform the upgrade during active failover or test operations.
  2. SRA Installation

    • Log in to the SRM Appliance Management Interface (https://####:5480).
    • Select Storage Replication Adapters and delete the existing 9.2 SRA card.
    • Select New Adapter, upload the Dell SRDF 10.2 .tar.gz archive, and click Upload.
    • Repeat these steps on the recovery site SRM appliance.
  3. Site Recovery Configuration

    • In the vSphere Client, navigate to Site Recovery > Site Pair > Configure > Storage Replication Adapters.
    • Click Rescan Adapters and confirm version 10.2 is displayed.
    • Select Array Pairs and click Discover Devices.
  4. Configuration Migration Warning

    • Do not manually import or restore configuration files from version 9.2 into version 10.2.
    • Applying legacy configuration files introduces deprecated parameters that result in SRDF Error 1058.
    • Manually re-enter Array Manager credentials after the upgrade.
  5. Permissions and Authorization

    • Running the Dell script enableAutoSSLCertGen.sh is required to utilize the FilterNonVMwareDevices feature.
    • Upgrading to version 10.2 changes the underlying Docker container ID. If discovery returns SYMAPI_C_AUTHZ_NOT_AUTHORIZED, update storage array permissions to authorize the new container ID.
