Issue/Introduction

This article addresses an issue where NSX Manager services (specifically mp and ar) fail to start or become inaccessible after running an outdated version of the Certificate Analyzer, Results and Recovery (CARR) script (version 1.21 or lower).

Symptoms:

  • NSX Manager services (mp and ar) fail to start.
  • NSX Manager UI is inaccessible.
  • Known occurrences after executing CARR script version < 1.22.

Environment

VMware NSX

Cause

An outdated version of the CARR script used for certificate renewal causes corruption of critical NSX Manager services.

Resolution

  1. Stop CARR script execution: Do not attempt to use CARR script versions lower than 1.22.
  2. Verify Corruption: If services are unresponsive, verify system status.
  3. Recovery: The supported resolution for this service corruption is to restore the NSX Manager cluster from a verified backup.
  4. Verification: After restoration, confirm all managers are in an "UP" and running state.
