Issue/Introduction

After upgrading Symantec Content Analysis (CAS) to version 4.1.2.1 or higher, integration with Symantec Messaging Gateway (SMG) fails to establish a working connection.

  • SMG User Interface Error:

"Please check if the Ip address, port and key are configured correctly."
  • SMG Log Output (casoop daemon):

85624 casoop: websocket connection to CAS server [IP] threw exception: connection hdl was not set.
  • Observed Network Behavior: The secure socket handshake fails with a TLSv1.3 handshake failure or abrupt connection termination during protocol negotiation.

Environment

  • Symantec Messaging Gateway (SMG): Version 10.9.2 and earlier
  • Content Analysis (CAS): Version 4.1.2.1 and higher (Upgraded from 3.x)

Resolution

A resolution has been incorporated into updated SMG releases. Follow these steps:

  1. Contact Broadcom Support to open a technical case with the Symantec Messaging Gateway support team.

  2. Support will verify your environment and direct you to the target software/patch release containing the required client engine fix.

  3. Upgrade your Messaging Gateway appliance(s) to the recommended version.
