VMware Live Recovery

Issue/Introduction

  • When attempting to create a protection group in VMware Live Recovery (VLR) or Site Recovery Manager (SRM), the progress bar stops at 57%.
  • This behavior typically occurs when the connection between the protected and recovery sites is interrupted or unauthenticated.

  • Protection group creation task hangs indefinitely at 57%.
  • Site pair status shows as "Disconnected" or "Authentication Required."
  • Virtual machines cannot be assigned to recovery plans.

Environment

  • VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF)
  • VMware Live Recovery 9.0.x
  • Site Recovery Manager

Cause

  • The process stalls because SRM cannot synchronize metadata between sites.

  • This is caused by a broken authentication session between the site pair, often due to expired service account credentials or identity source connectivity issues.

Resolution

  1. Log in to the vSphere Client.
  2. Navigate to Site Recovery > Open Site Recovery.
  3. Select the impacted Site Pair and click View Details.
  4. Click Actions > Reconnect.
  5. Provide the credentials for the remote site. Use a local administrative account such as [email protected] to ensure authentication is not blocked by external directory service issues.
  6. Verify the site pair status returns to Connected.
  7. Resume the protection group creation.
