Issue/Introduction

This article describes an issue where the DX NetOps Data Aggregator (DA) experiences a progressive memory leak, eventually leading to a process crash or termination by the operating system

  • DA process heap utilization increases steadily over 3-4 days until reaching system limits.
  • Data Aggregator process is killed by the OOM (Out-of-Memory) killer.
  • A large .hprof file is generated under the Data Aggregator installation directory
  • Analysis of the heap dump shows high retention in com.ca.im.portal.api.datasources.interfaces.nqevents.EventProperty.
  • In the  Data Aggregator /opt/IMDataAggregator/apache-karaf/data/log/karaf.log* (25.4.3 and earlier) or /opt/IMDataAggregator/data/log/ netops-data-aggregator.log* files we can see errors such as:

    ERROR | EventPush        | YYYY-MM-DDTHH:MM:SS,### | EventProducerWS | or.eventproducer.EventProducerWS 1000 | a.im.NPCConnector.bundle |       | Failed to push 1200 events: Could not send Message.

Environment

  • DX NetOps 25.4.9 or earlier
  • Data Aggregator installed on Linux

Cause

The failure to push events was triggering a secondary issue where memory would grow on the Data Aggregator until restarted or it runs out of heap memory.

Resolution

  • The resolution of the memory issue is argeted to be fixed in release 25.4.10.
  • Note: This target is subject to change, and specific release dates are not currently available.
  • You should subscribe to this article to be updated on the fix status: How to subscribe to Knowledge Base Articles.

    Workaround:
  • Review your networking and firewall configuration to ensure the Data Aggregator can consistently reach the Event Manager on the portal.
