Upgrade precheck fails with "hosts are reachable" error despite active connectivity when upgrading to VCF Operations for Networks 9.0.2

Issue/Introduction

When attempting to upgrade VCF Operations for Networks 6.14.2 to 9.0.2  via VCF Operations Fleet Management the upgrade precheck fails with the following error:

• Error Message: Error occurred while completing Operations for Networks upgrade precheck. Please check whether Operations for Networks hosts are reachable.
• Error Code: LCMVRNICONFIG90047
• Exception: com.vmware.vrealize.lcm.plugin.core.vrni.common.exception.VRNIUpgradeValidationException
• GUI Status: Infrastructure health may show as "Poor" with a specific warning: "Failed to back up configuration."

Environment

• VCF Operations for Networks 6.14.2
• VCF Operations for Networks 9.0.2
• vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager versions 8.18.x

Cause

This issue is caused by a stale or failed backup configuration on the Platform appliance. Even if the nodes are reachable and pingable via CLI, the internal "Failed to back up configuration" error blocks the Suite Lifecycle pre-validator from successfully completing the health check.

Resolution

To clear the blocking state before upgrading:

1. Log in to the VCF Operations for Networks GUI.
2. Navigate to Settings > Infrastructure and support > Infrastructure and Updates.
3. Confirm the health warning "Failed to back up configuration" is present.
4. Open an SSH session to the Platform appliance and log in as consoleuser.
5. Execute the command: backup-restore backup --action delete
6. Verify output: BACKUP : Configuration successfully deleted.
7. In vRSLCM, navigate to Lifecycle Operations > Environments and trigger a Manual Inventory Sync.
   
   
8. Retry the Upgrade Precheck in Fleet Management.
   
   
9. Prechecks should now pass.
   
   
10. Proceed to upgrade VCF Operations for Networks.

Additional Information

Users experiencing this during upgrades from legacy Suite Lifecycle imports should ensure inventory sync is performed after any CLI-based configuration changes.
