Issue/Introduction

When deploying VMware Cloud Foundation 9.1 using an existing vCenter Server, the installer fails to discover eligible ClusterComputeResource objects if they are placed inside a vCenter Folder hierarchy.

  • Clusters nested in folders below the Datacenter object do not appear in the discovery UI.
  • The deployment cannot proceed until the cluster is selected.

Environment

VMware Cloud Foundation 9.1.0.0

Cause

The VCF 9.1 Installer cluster discovery logic is not recursive and only enumerates direct children of the Datacenter object.

Resolution

Move the target cluster object to the root level of the Datacenter to ensure it is discovered:

  1. Log in to the vCenter Server.
  2. Navigate to the Hosting and Clusters view.
  3. Drag the Cluster object from its current Folder to the Datacenter root.
  4. Restart the VCF 9.1 Installer discovery process.
