Issue/Introduction

When attempting to upgrade VMware vRealize Network Insight (vRNI) from version 6.14.0 to 6.14.3 using Aria Suite Lifecycle, the version 6.14.3 does not appear in the upgrade version dropdown list.

This behavior occurs even after ensuring that the 6.14.3 upgrade binary file has been successfully uploaded to Binary Mapping and correctly associated with vRNI. Meanwhile, intermediate versions like 6.14.1 and 6.14.2 continue to display normally in the list.

Environment

  • VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle 8.18 Patch 8
  • VMware Aria Operations for Networks 6.14.0
  • VMware Aria Operations for Networks 6.14.1

Cause

There is a workflow logic that prevents the direct upgrade path from vRNI 6.14.1 or any lower version to 6.14.3 from being properly recognized or displayed in the UI dropdown and to perform the upgrade. A patch is required to permanently address this behavior.

Resolution

VMware engineering team is working on the issue and a permanent fix will be integrated into upcoming patch releases. You can Subscribe to this article to receive further updates.

Workaround:

In the meantime, vRNI can be successfully upgraded by following the multi-step upgrade:

  1. Step 1: Upgrade vRNI from version 6.14.0/6.14.1 to 6.14.2.

  2. Step 2: Once the environment is successfully verified on version 6.14.2, proceed with the upgrade from 6.14.2 to 6.14.3 through vRLCM.
