Issue/Introduction

Attempts to access HCX Service Mesh appliances, including Interconnect (IX) and Network Extension (NE), via the ccli utility workflow result in the session hanging.

  • When using the ccli utility (list > go # > ssh) to access a Service Mesh appliance, the session hangs immediately.
  • Redeploying appliances only provides a temporary resolution for approximately five minutes.
  • Access via the vCenter VM Console remains functional.

Environment

  • VMware HCX 9.0.x
  • HCX Interconnect (IX) and Network Extension (NE) appliances

Resolution

This behavior is not observed in VCF Operations HCX 9.1 and later releases.

Workaround for HCX 9.0:

To access the appliance for troubleshooting, you must first update the appliance credentials in the HCX Manager and then use the vSphere VM console:

  1. Log in to the HCX Manager user interface.
  2. Navigate to Interconnect > Service Mesh > Appliances.
  3. Locate the affected IX or NE appliance and click the Change Password option.
  4. Enter the credentials for the root and admin accounts and click Update.
  5. Verify the update task completes under the Tasks section.
  6. Launch the vSphere Web Console for the appliance and log in with the updated credentials.
