After update from 8.18.5 to 8.18.6 Month to Date Storage Price Resets Upon VM Deletion in Aria Operations

Issue/Introduction

In VMware Aria Operations integrated with VMware Cloud Director (VCD), the Summary|Metering|Month to Date Storage Price metric erroneously resets to the current daily rate when a virtual machine object is deleted. This issue occurs despite the "Deleted Objects" retention policy being correctly configured.

Symptoms include severe financial reporting discrepancies where accumulated month-to-date storage costs are abruptly truncated to single-day costs upon VM deletion.

The analytics logs will indicate the following exact error pattern when the object state transitions to "Not Existing":

VMware Aria Operations 8.18.6

Cause

This issue has been observed in the Aria Operations 8.18.6 pricing engine. When an object transitions to a "Not Existing" collection state, the background cache cleanup threads execute. Concurrently, the metering calculation thread loses the index to the deleted object's historical data array due to missing attribute filters, causing the calculation to drop the historical array and reset.

Resolution

 

1. Currently, there is no workaround available for this issue.

2. A resolution is planned for an upcoming VMware Aria Operations 8.18.x release.
