Issue/Introduction

A custom tab created for a specific device context report does not appear for all devices that share a common context type (e.g., Firewall). This occurs because the DX NetOps Portal generates a unique context report template for every distinct combination of primary Type and Context Types.

Environment

  • DX NetOps Performance Management (all versions)
  • DX NetOps Portal

Cause

The Portal UI treats each unique set of device types as a separate report template. For example, a device with types "Router, Firewall" uses a different template than a device with "Switch, Firewall" or "Router, Switch, Firewall". Customizations like new tabs are applied only to the specific template of the device where the change was initiated. There is currently no inheritance or global application of tabs based on a single shared context value.

Resolution

To ensure a custom tab is visible across all devices sharing a specific context, replicate the tab on each unique report template:

  1. Identify all unique combinations of Type and Context Types for the target devices in the Portal Inventory list.
  2. Navigate to the Context Report of a device representing one of the identified combinations.
  3. Manually create the custom tab and add the desired views.
  4. Repeat these steps for one device in every unique type combination identified in Step 1.

Note: Once the new Tab is created against one example of a given device type combination, all devices assigned the same type combination should utilize the same Context Report and show the new tab. The new tab does not need to be created once per device, just once per unique device type combination.
